Strength for Today and Bright Hope for Tomorrow

Everyone knows that there's not much I enjoy more than planning a special occasion.

This is the one special occasion I never wanted to plan, the one invitation I never wanted to issue:

It is with a heavy heart that Nilgiris Tea House announces we will be closing weekend operations at the end of July. (We are still available for private functions and special events; email

All our friends who care for and patronize the TH
are invited to a come-and-go farewell tea
on Sunday, July 27, 3 - 6 pm

We thank you for your patronage, friendship and many kindnesses. We have loved serving the community that has developed in the TH over the past 11 years. We will miss you deeply.

The morning I finally came to the conclusion that this is the way God is leading me, I felt desolate. The sky was thundering, scowling at me as I peered out of my bedroom window overlooking the park.

I tearfully made my way down the 16 steps to the TH. After half an hour or so of busyness in the kitchen, I walked into the dining room. I opened the front door, and I was greeted with this:

A double rainbow - Mum's sign of God's promise and care - beamed over the park across from Nilgiris!

It was 6:15 in the morning.

God has plans for me, and He has plans for this little TH that we all have grown to love. We don't know what His plans are right now, but we do know that His wisdom is staggering in its depth, and His love has no limit.

Great is His faithfulness.

  1. Love and Prayers Karyn. Wish we could be there with you. Hoping to see you soon though!

  2. Hi Karyn, does this mean the TH will be closed or closed only on weekends.
How are you and your dear Dad. Love to you both.

  3. Thank you for your years at the tea house, we always enjoyed the atmosphere, the delicious foods, and the kind service we always received. I know we have been blessed by you, and we pray God's blessing as you begin the new path He has laid before you.

  4. I'm so sad to see this; but as you say, God has His plans. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares The Lord. Such words of comfort.

  5. The fire has always been lit there - in the kitchen or on the hearth. The cup of tea has always been ready and available. Along with you, Karyn, dearest hostess, friend to all the earth. We will miss your presence more than we can imagine. Because the Tea House has been more than a restaurant; it has been a portal to your heart, where many (including me) have come inside and found rest for our souls. Thank you for all you've given, for all you are. You are still the same, and the fire burns on in your heart. May you find moments of peaceful rest beside it now, close to the flames. It is bright, and oh so beautiful and warming. Hold your hands out to this fire, lit by rainbow light from a God whose fire is not all-consuming, but leaves to endure the most precious treasures; and feel what we've known so long now. Thank you for your faithful work and service. For all the love and care and prayers. We love you past the sky! .. I do! See you on the 27th.

I love to hear from you! Please leave me a leaf to read ...
